Clifton look to build upon their win against Stourbridge last weekend when they open the doors at Station Road to another Derby when the y welcome Old Reds. Despite the horrific injury to Danny Openshaw in the closing stages of the game, Mat Salter will have been pleased with how his side responded against a rejuvenated Stour side in testing conditions at Stourton Park.
Clifton were inconsistent in the opening half, turning over possession too easily and gave Stour easy entries into their half which resulted in 2 tries. But after the break, they kicked on and their forward pack managed to stifle the home side and they asserted dominance to come away with the win, resulting in the game being abandoned after 70 minutes due to Openshaw's injury.
"It was testing, they threw the sink at us on Saturday as we took a little time to react. We knew we would pull away but we had to match their energy and we did that well in the second half. This week will be similar, Reds have really kicked on in the last few weeks and play an attractive brand of rugby. They pushed Dings all the way last week and that is a signal on how well they are performing. We need to take that win on Saturday and focus on the areas where we are strong and to keep working on our game. "
Salter is without Openshaw to injury and Mitch Spencer for the remainder of the season, but is confident in his sides depth.
"I mean we have Blake and Will (O'Connor) who have been round the club for some time now, so we are string. Blake has obviously come back to us after his time at England 7s and he's been back to fitness so we are looking forward to seeing those two boys step up. It's a challenge like anything in this league, but we keep progressing keep working and getting better. "
