Clifton look ahead after outstanding Tonbridge win

"That was last week.....we are focused on our job against OA'S" Such was the response from the coaching staff this week when asked repeatedly about the 23-22 win against Tonbridge last Saturday at Station Road. Clifton produced arguably one of the performances of the season to beat the league leaders having secured 4 points in similar fashion against Henley the previous round.

But there is no sense that the squad or coaches are getting ahead of themselves.
"We have put together two very good performances against quality sides, but we know we could have been better in some aspects of both games and that has been our focus this week in training. Yes, we took the win and enjoyed it Saturday night, but it was back to work on Monday and looking ahead to reviewing what went well, what didn't and making that right for what is going to be a tough trip against OA'S"
Mike Barber, Assistant Coach

Last season, Clifton conceded over 40 points in London after a Niall Gibbons red card in the first 10 minutes, saw OA's run away with the game. OA's have played well in recent games, causing Taunton problems at Hyde Park and last weeks win over Westcliff has seen them begin to assert a move up the table. But Head Coach Matt Salter and his squad are prepared for what is going to be a tough away fixture at a aground that is notoriously hard to win at:

"We've probably painted a bit of a target on our back now; teams will come at us that bit harder. It's tight at the top end of the table; it shows the quality of this league gets better each season and we know you can drop out of contention very quickly. We need to be prepared for that moving forward. But as we keep saying, we have a great group of boys who are driving standards week-in, week-out."

"They play fast and throw the ball around, plus they have a very good set-piece. We need to be mindful of how we want to play and ensure we dictate the tempo as we have done in the last two games. We know where we want to target them and we need to ensure we get that level of detail right again this week."

Clifton will be without Gloucester's Jack Clement and Tom Stanton who both played staring roles in last weeks victories, but Hary Bate came through his 25 minutes off the bench to be in contention for selection this week. Jack Williams is progressing well from his return from injury giving options for Salter within his squad for Saturday's pivotal clash.
