When Matt Salter looked ahead to the mid-season break around the autumn international window, you would have expected that lying 2nd in the league would have been an acceptable outcome. But Clifton's head coach is not resting on their league position as they look ahead to arguably the toughest block in the Calander year as they face Newport on Saturday back at Station Road.
Following a hard-fought win against Barnstaple before the season break, Salter's side sit 2nd, 6 points behind Leicester and tied with Dings, the 2 sides that have beaten them this season. Leicester recently took the spoils over Redruth which makes the top of the league very interesting and hotly contested as they head into the festive season.
Newport have adjusted to life well in Nat2W after an initial slow start and they are renowned for their physical play, so Saturday's encounter at Station Road will likely be an engrossing one.
Clifton have once again, a full complement to choose from as Joe Owen, Mackenzie Duncan are available and are joined by Bears hooker Fred Davies. Luke Cozens returns to the fold following his role in the demolition of Dings Knights the other week by the Wanderers and Tom Wilson is set to make a return to action after a long lay off.
CLIFTON WANDERERS - DURSELY 1st XV
Clifton Wanderers will look to continue their unbeaten league run as they host an in form Dursely side at Station Road. The away team currently sit in 5th place in Counties 2 Gloucestershire South, hot on the tails of the chasing pack and only 5 points adrift of 2nd place. Both the home and away sides recorded strong wins in their last outings, with the Wanderers putting on a clinical display to beat rivals Dings II by an emphatic scoreline of 83-7 and Dursely beating mid-table Bristol Saracens 33-5. After a break weekend in the league, both sides will be looking to continue where they left off with the Wanderers entering the fixture as undoubted favourites.
BAC VS CLIFTON MISFITS
Clifton’s misfits look to dethrone Bristol Aeroplane Company this coming Saturday following an emphatic win over club rivals, Dings Crusaders with a 67-10 thrashing.
Coaches McGrath and Nichols confident that the team can compete following recent performances. This game will not be a walk in the park! Bristol Aeroplane Company currently sit first in the league, having been undefeated thus far.
Clifton’s form has been phenomenal so far against the physical and larger sides in this league.
Both teams have had time to rest and recover following dominant displays of rugby since the beginning of this season.
This will be a physical and exciting clash by two very dominant teams.
