Ben Jordan

The Club is saddened to report Ben Jordan's passing.

It is with great sadness I announce the passing of Clifton stalwart, Brian (Ben) Jordan. We extend our sympathy and condolences to wife Linda, daughter Emma and grandson Oscar.

It would be difficult to find a greater servant to our club as Ben, who took on numerous posts and positions in a voluntary capacity, all for the betterment of Clifton RFC.

Ben joined the club in 1965 as a player and was soon to become captain of the BXV and team secretary. However it was the many club activities and positions he held that he was to become famous for.

Being an accountant he was more than able to become Assistant Treasurer, Fixture Secretary, Press Officer, Chair of Ground Committee, Disciplinary Officer, Bristol Combination rep, GRFU rep, player registration, VAT Expert, and NCA club representative.

Not of a parochial nature, Ben in the interests of rugby, became treasurer of the Combination, he sat on disciplinary panels at County and National levels, and was duly honoured when appointed President of the County.

Ben made many friends in the world of rugby and to put all this in perspective, when I arrived with him at a National Rugby Awards event at the Belfry, the host introduced him to Jonathan Davies as, "here comes Mr. Clifton"

I am sure a number of colleagues, some no longer with us, would agree that Ben was a one off, and during his time was the soul of the club.

John Raine
President
